What do you think about this?? "The Problem with Music"

This is an article written by producer/label owner/band member Steve Albini, about how the huge record labels (Columbia, EMI, Sony, Universal etc) treat their bands they sign.

I found this very pertinent and credible and wanted to know what you thought about this.

So I FINALLY read this article, and I don't doubt that there are many bands that get fucked over in the industry. There are indie record companies and "indie" record companies. What I mean by this, in my terms, is there are literally independent recording studios established in a person's basement or apartment (such as Prophecy Records), and there are widely established independent labels such as SPV or EMI.

I guess it really comes down to the label; some allow complete artistic freedom, some do not (I'm not an expert on this subject... keep that in mind. Also you should read up on Led Zeppelin and their recording history lol. Ahhh, priceless! Zeppelin REFUSED to let the label interfere with their music, and were known to forcibly remove representatives, hence their drummer's nickname was "The Bull").

Also, I'm curious as to where these numbers are coming from; the expenses, I mean. $5000 for cover art? If you're paying $5000 you're doing something wrong! It's as unjustified as buying a shitastic half-assed crappy Pollock painting for $50,000 I mean, WTF?!?! You're a stupid fuckin' neub for buying that piece of shit! I can see low thousands, but really? There are so many freelance artists out there! But I digress...

Like I said, even though the guy's a producer... it sounds more like a rant than anything, so I'm reluctant to take his word on this topic when there are SOOOOO many exceptions to the industry, but like I said, not my area of expertise. I don't doubt this situation is unheard, mind you, I'm sure it's quite common.
